What’s It Like at Mercy Home?

Mercy Home’s residential program is made up of 14 different “homes” that serve about six to 12 kids each. Young people are placed in the homes based on their ages and their individual needs. This structure supports the tailored plan of care that Mercy Home creates for each child who comes to live with us. Every young person in our care follows a daily schedule similar to the one listed below*:

6:00–7:00am  Wake up, prepare for school, eat breakfast

7:30–3:30pm  School or work

3:30–4:00pm  Free/gym time

4:00–5:00pm  Group meeting

5:00–5:30pm  Dinner

5:30–6:00pm  Chores – weekly allowances depend on getting chores done!

6:00–7:30pm  Study/homework – tutors and staff are available for help with assignments

7:30–9:00pm  Finish study/free time

9:00–10:30pm Bedtime preparation/lights out

* This schedule is only an example; each program has different schedules. For example, our older youth usually have later bedtimes than our younger children.

During weekends, the days are more relaxed. Our kids’ families are allowed to visit on Saturdays and Sundays. Youth can also return home on weekends, when appropriate, if they have earned passes through good behavior. If possible, all of our children go home to celebrate holidays with their families. Fridays and weekends are also usually reserved for special activities, such as movies, trips to the park or beach, sports games, ice skating, bowling and more.

All of our young people receive individual and group therapy at least once a week, and participate in family therapy at least once a month. Therapy sessions focus on helping each child accompish the goals that he or she has set with the help of care managers as part of our individualized program of care.
