Community Service

One of our goals in working with children is to prepare them to become positive members of the community.  And the boys and girls of Mercy Home don’t wait until adulthood to start making a positive impact.

Every year, Mercy Home’s young men and women – children from our Residential, Friends First mentoring, and Aftercare programs – take part in dozens of community service projects to pay back some of the kindness that has been shown to them.

From volunteering at food banks and writing to troops serving overseas to raising money for victims of natural disasters and walking dogs at a local animal shelter, these programs teach our children important lessons about their communities and the world around them.

Each Christmas, our young people proudly present a book detailing each of their service projects to Chicago’s mayor as a symbolic gift to the entire city of Chicago.  We are so proud that our children impact our community in so many ways.
